CHINH INDIA_ITALIA started thanks to the collaboration between two extremely lively and active cultural groups. Formed by media and music professionals, CHINH INDIA_ITALIA has the aim to create a bridge of cultural exchange and development to promote the traditional culture and tradition of nomadic people.

CHINH is a Sanskrit word meaning symbol representing the phoenix like strength, the incredible culture and traditions of the nomadic people of the world.

CHINH aims to preserve, promote and transmit to the future generations the cultural and music heritage of the nomadic communities of the world, as well as to promote the civil rights of the nomads through the production of documentaries, publishing and disco graphic material, educational kits and workshops.

In these years of the huge success of Indian society and culture, CHINH INDIA_ITALIA is an international partnership willing to spread all over the world a valuable artistic heritage.

CHINH INDIA_ITALIA project is ambitious: the first challenge will be the promotion of an international conference that will be held in Italy and then in India on the issue of the nomadic people. Then, the second challenge will be the most innovative experiment of intercultural ingration ever produced: the creation of NOW – the Nomadic Orchestra of the World, a different point of view to look at the nomadic people in a musical and cultural perspective.

CHINH INDIA_ITALIA reckons that the first step is the creation of a relationship between the Roma communities living in Italy and Europe and the nomadic communities living in Rajasthan.

NOW - Nomadic Orchestra of the World – already existing and being active in the Indian territory is an orchestra linking nomads from East to West, a tireless caravan travelling without knowing the final destination with the only goal of reaching as many countries of the world as possible, in order to tell a new colourful story made of freedom and respect of human rights, looking for unique sounds and for the ancient common origin.

The promoters of the NOW initiative are the filmmakers Meenakshi Vinay Rai. The art director of NOW is Andrea Camerini, italian singer and musician, active in Italy with experiences with the gipsy people and leading the music group Nuove Tribù Zulu to promote the values of intercultural and of the respect of diversities.

Together with the musicians belonging to the different nomadic ethnic groups (Bhopa, Kalbelia, Banjara, Gadia Lohar), the orchestra will use the collaboration of musicians with different backgrounds and belonging to different nations on condition that they all share the idea and the vision of the project: the creation of bridges of access for the “invisible” world of nomadic people to make it be seen and heard in terms of social, economical and cultural expression and reciprocal growth.

The conference in Rome has been organised with the collaboration with the spokesman of the Arts and Interculture of the Roma XII City Council. All the city councillors working in the field of social and educational policies have been invited to take part to the meeting. Italian NGOs, associations and activists have been invited to give their contribution in terms of expertise and critical understanding.
